ABOUT THE MUSIC
The recordings in 'The Listening Room' are the tunes available as of June 2021. They were recorded by my Middle School & Jr. High Bands during the 2001 - 2015 school years. So you'll be able to hear what your groups will sound like (as opposed to the Music Publishers 'studio musicians). "To The Future", "Grand Old Flag", "Celebrate The Heroes", and the 'Bubba' Series are currently Sibelius recordings. A couple of Charts are HS Recording as noted in the catalog list. Most titles have been used sucessfully in both jazz and band and orchestra festivals. In writing for the Jr. High School age musician I tried to teach them how to listen across the band especially when playing unison soli sections.
I did find that teaching Ballads first really made them have to listen. These compositions should serve your Beginning groups well whether they be Middle, Jr. High or High School (#2 Groups) ensembles. Also, Piano and Bass parts are written out for easier learning.
I hope you will find these tunes fun and some challenging to play.
Thanks, Dan

"Through the years, I've had the pleasure of watching
Dan Barilone rehearse younger bands while they've played his arrangements. He's passionate about writing and teaching and certainly knows what he's doing. His charts play well, are really fun to play, and make a band shine".
